The Kirby vacuum was designed by Jim Kirby for George Scott and Carl Fetzer, although the Kirby name was not used on the Kirby vacuum until the 1930’s and since then it has been extremely popular. The Kirby vacuum cleaner has always been sold door to door by Kirby vacuum specialists and is probably the only vacuum cleaner that was ever sold in this way.

Kirby vacuum specialist would knock on peoples houses and carry out a demonstration to show the potential customers how good the new vacuum cleaner was. They would use the Kirby vacuum on curtains, bedding and flooring and would show the unsuspecting potential customers just how much dirt was being left behind by their existing vacuum cleaner. This revelation often horrified people and made them feel like they needed to own a Kirby vacuum.

The Kirby vacuum has always been a lot more expensive when compared with many other vacuum cleaners but it a long term investment and with proper care and attention an official Kirby vacuum should run and run for many years.
